*Courses with asterisks (*) need to be created. Courses named ‘290’ are special topics classes in first phase of development.

Students will have the choice of signing up for the recommended cluster of semester classes, taking each recommended semester in sequence (semester 1, 2, 3 and 4), or signing up for classes according to personal need, with the option to spread the required MATP classes over more than the recommended 4 semesters. However, students choosing to take the MATP recommended four semesters of classes in sequence will be given priority to seats available per required core class at their appropriate semester level. All students will have the option to repeat MATP core classes four times, in the context of acquiring an Media Arts Technology AS degree. Students will be allowed to sign up for Elective classes, only when all required MATP core courses have been passed with a satisfactory grade.

The program is structured so that the subject matter covered during the first, second and third semester classes can be integrated into individual and team Elective projects during the fourth semester.

The earlier section of this document entitled, Organization of Program, contains more information on the interrelationship of courses.

Many new classes will be created especially for this program, but some of the planned program content can be satisfied by minor modifications to some classes that are already approved curriculum:

·        ART 101 – Art History provides historical context for art and the art of animation, including knowledge of artists, designers, scientists, and their works.

·        ICS 161 and 261 – Beginning and Intermediate Computer Graphics provides foundation skills in 3D modeling and animation for output to New Media formats

·        ICS 151C - fundamentals for object oriented programming; focuses on the creation of autonomous agents and other aspects of simulation preparing students for modeling in the social and natural sciences.

·        ART 108 – Drawing and painting provide practical context through knowledge of traditional visual art methods and how they are applied

·        MUS 108 - Fundamentals of Music Theory provides practical knowledge of rhythms, melodies and chords, combines with how music and sound effects are used in film and multimedia

·         NATURAL SCIENCE or SOCIAL SCIENCE elective - requires development of a plan with staff in chosen areas that allows satisfaction of course requirements through modeling.
